In a week where we remember the life and ministry of evangelist Billy Graham, we specifically take note of one of his well-known quotes. ‘It is the Holy Spirit’s job to convict, it is God’s job to judge, and it is my job to love.” As we continue our series of messages in the book of 1 Corinthians, Pastor Darren works at clarifying the somewhat controversial request by Paul that the church be active in ‘judging’ each other (5:12-13). He shows how Paul takes an OT command with severe repercussions and makes it culturally relevant for the NT church, and then he challenges the North American church of today to do the same; focus on the ‘purpose’ of the command rather then the ‘specific action prescription’ and in a culturally relevant way, strive to attain that purpose! Strive for ‘Morality in the Church’.
